1st July 2018 Beadnell ----- If you would like to support me, I am raising money for surgery in Spain: https://gofund.me/045d82ea ----- My daughter accompanied me on a trip to the seaside in Northumberland in search for red ochre as mentioned in a book from 1769. While we were there, we speculated whether the monks of Lindisfarne once sought out red ochre to make their red paints from the same place. Finishing our time at the sea front with some quality time rock pooling. On our way home we called by the Grace Darling museum in Bamburgh (Free entry) because my daughter has been learning about her at school recently. Time Team at Beadnell: • Видео Related video: In search of yellow ochre: • Look What I Found... DISCLAIMER: The video is a mixture of fact and speculation. That Beadnell once had a reputation for smuggling and the quantities of liquor seized is factual. Whether the export of quick lime was used to hide smuggling activities is speculation and makes for a good tale. The reality is that Beadnell did have enough limestone to quarry for commercial export but not on the same scale as Weardale. The geology account for red ochre was read from a real book dating from 1769... but whether the monks used red ochre from this site is speculation. What I forgot to mention is that in a later geology account of the area (1859), there is mention of a lead vein at Beadnell and of ironstone... both materials were used by Lindisfarne monks to produce red paint but whether from this site or not, can't be told for certain. However, there is a very plausible chance that the monks did indeed take materials from Beadnell... just we can't say with 100% accuracy. ----- Music Title: 'Sea of a Million Pebbles' Artist: Philip Bridle Source: / sea-of-a-million-pebbles License: Creative Commons BY 3.0 Title: 'Lighthouse' Artist: Carter Behnke Source: / carter-behnke-lighthouse-1 License: Creative Commons BY-ND 3.0 ----- Thank you for watching Please like, comment, subscribe, and share.
