We are asked all the time what living in Headingley is like, and today we've decided to debut our new series, Want to be Our Neighbour? focusing on this suburb of Winnipeg with local Realtor, Logan Queen. 🙌 #Headingley #LivingInWinnipeg #BestCommunitiesInManitoba Headingley is a rural municipality West of the City of Winnipeg. The RM is made up of the communities of Assiniboia, Hacienda, Headingley and South Headingley. The area is spread out and in South Headingley you can find the town/community area yet Headingley is also known for its sprawling estates which can be found along the Assiniboine river and overlooking Breezy Bend Golf club. The Grace hospital which is located on Sturgeon road Just north of Portage avenue is located approximately 10km from most of Headingley. The Grace hospital is an emergency medicine facility that also offers surgeries including an orthopedic trauma surgery center and an acute care surgical site. It also has a 10 bed critical care unit and a full spectrum of health support services. There is one school that is located in South Headingley. Phoenix school is an English elementary school offering programs from Kindergarten to grade 5. As Headingley is part of the St. James-Assiniboia school division children attending French immersion and grades above 5 would be bussed to neighboring St. James in Winnipeg. For French immersion elementary school children would attend Ecole Robert Browning. For middle school grades 6-8 if attending English programs they will go to Lincoln middle school and for French immersion they would attend Ecole Ness. High school options would be Westwood Collegiate for English programs and College Sturgeon heights French immersion. If you are looking for shopping options the closest shopping area is the Unicity Shopping Center located just inside the Perimeter Highway. The area is also approximately a 20-30 minute drive from the Seasons of Tuxedo shopping area which features the outlet collection Winnipeg, Ikea, Cabelas and a large selection of other retailers and restaurant choices. Some of the best garden centres can be found in Headingley. Giving you a quick trip to find plants, flowers and anything you need to make your yard an oasis. If you love to golf the RM of Headingley is home to 2 golf courses. John Blumberg golf course is technically 2 courses combined into one. Breezy Bend is a private country club which offers one of the most interesting course layouts in Manitoba. Headingley is home to 2 separate community centres. Headingley Community Centre is described by the RM as the jewel of the community. This state of the art facility is one of the most popular facilities in the area to host weddings, socials and business meetings. The Phoenix community center is located in the Hamlet of South Headingley. This smaller community center was the original center for the area. It is still used to host small wedding showers, birthdays and family events. In addition Headingley has the hockey hutch outdoor facility in winter. It is home to 2 outdoor rinks, heated dressing rooms, a canteen and a lit skating trail. John Blumberg soccer and baseball complex is a constant summer weather hub. The Headingley grand trunk trail is approximately 10km long and runs from the Perimeter Highway where it connects to the Harte trail to the east, to the west it runs to Beaudry Provincial park. This scenic trail offers open prairie expanses and amazing sunset views in the summer evenings. Headingley houses two correctional facilites. Headingley correctional Centre is located on the Assiniboine river south of Portage and is a minimum, medium and maximum security facility with a capacity of around 550 adult males. The womens correctional center is located north of Portgage avenue was completed in 2012 and is a multi level security facility with a capacity of nearly 200 female offenders.
