A brief insight into my first experience shooting medium format film with the Mamiya RB67 Pro S. After selling a lot of my gear I was looking out for a long time for a Mamiya RB67 or Pentax 67 on the second hand market. When I finally found a guy on ebay who was selling his Mamiya RB67 kit including the 90mm 3.8 lens, the adventure started for me. Prior to that, I hadn’t even touched a medium format camera in my life, let alone was aware of the sheer weight of it. It’s bulky, it’s heavy, but I have to say, I really like the ergonomics of it - and I've fallen in love with the waist level view finder. Such a different experience when shooting portraits or even for landscape photography. After studying the videos about the Mamiya RB67/RZ67 by the usual suspects like Willem Verbeek or Matt Day (incredibly helpful sources by the way) I loaded the magazine with some Kodak Portra 400 and went on a quest for some „definite keepers“. Not sure if I really ended up with too many keepers after my first two rolls, but the experience itself was all worth it. I have yet much to learn about the the holy world of medium format and I’m more than ready to embark on this beautiful journey and move my eyes away from digital, at least for a while.
