Dr. Cory Torgerson discusses the popular cosmetic procedure known as the mini face lift. The minilift is an excellent procedure for those patients looking to gain a more youthful appearance by tightening their face and neck, but who also want to minimize their downtime. It is a great option for a younger patient who may be looking for a more subtle result, a patient who is more cost conscious, or a patient who has already had a face lift several years prior, but is looking to refresh their youthful appearance. Good candidates for this procedure range from 40-60 years of age. Mini face lifts are conducted in a similar fashion to a traditional face lift, however the extent of the incision and the amount of tissue removed is much less. They usually start with an incision around the temple which continues around the ear. Scars become virtually invisible over time and can easily be hidden with the hair. The skin is lifted and the underlying muscles are tightened with sutures. Excess skin is removed and the incision is closed. The procedure usually takes about 3-4 hours and can be performed under conscious sedation or general anesthesia. At the end of the surgery, a head dressing is applied around the incision. The recovery period typically lasts between 7 and 10 days and some swelling and bruising is to be expected. Pain medication is prescribed and it is recommended that patients sleep in an elevated position. After one week, sutures are removed.
