Titleist Tips: Putting Drill for Consistent Speed Control

To make a putt in golf, you’ve got to match up a read with a speed. Speed is dependent on the quality of contact on the putter face, particularly how far north/south on the face you strike the ball. As Titleist staff instructor John Kostis notes in this video, most players are fairly proficient at reading putts and gauging the speed needed. They fall short, however, in developing a repeatable putting stroke that allows them to roll the golf ball the required speed. That skill only emerges when you learn to make center-face contact each time. To help do this, John shares a great drill using an alignment stick that will allow you to feel consistent arc width throughout the stroke. When you build consistent arc width, center-face contact and hitting your putts solidly is as easy as rocking your shoulders.
