Driving in the Netherlands: Rijksweg A28 E232 & N48 from Beilen to Ommen

In this video you can ride along on Rijksweg A28 E232 and N48 from Beilen to Ommen in the East of the Netherlands. The A28 is an important highway connecting the center of the Netherlands (Utrecht) with the North (Groningen) via the East (Zwolle). Coming off the N381 at Beilen, we enter the A28 in the Southern direction (Hoogeveen). At Hoogeveen there is a junction with the A37, which runs from Hoogeveen to the border with Germany and passes the larger city of Emmen. We continue South on the N48, which is a 2 x 1 expressway with no separation. Just North of Ommen there is an intersection with the N36, another important regional road connecting the East of the country. When looking at the map of this part of the Netherlands, one could argue that the highway network has some missing links. Sparsely populated (rural) areas have in the past been an argument for not further expanding the highway network in the eastern direction.
