I’m back in the woods of the New Hope ghost town community, and this time I’m revisiting sites I already know, trying to piece together what this place used to be before it vanished into pine trees and brush. We start with three homeplaces, including two chimneys sitting down in low ground where you would not expect them. They do not make sense, and the more you look, the more questions you end up with. From there we visit a homeplace that has been completely erased except for one thing, broken glass scattered across the soil, like the last fingerprints of a family that lived here. Then we reach the most well preserved ruins I have seen out here yet. Multiple house sites in one place, the bones of a yard still visible, and an early car sitting abandoned in the back like time stopped and never restarted. But the biggest surprise is at the end. Just above the old ferry crossing, we discover a mysterious basement from a rock building that opens up a whole new set of questions about what happened here and why. This is another scouting mission, but it is getting us closer. If you have any family ties to New Hope or you recognize anything you see in this video, tell me in the comments. The woods keep secrets, but the ground still remembers.
