The S&W M49 Tanaka is a replica of the Smith & Wesson Model 49 "Body Guard". It's a small .38 special revolver made to be easily concealed. It has a shrouded hammer which prevent snagging while drawing the gun. As usual with Tanaka, this airsoft version has a very good finish but very average performances, not to say bad ones. It's also a bit awkward to use. The gas goes directly inside the cylinder and the bbs are stored inside an internal magazine, allowing the gun to carry 10 bbs. It has a low power of about 185 FPS (using 144a gas and 0.20 Tanio Koba) and a very limited range of about 12-15 meters. Le S&W M49 Tanaka est une réplique du Smith & Wesson Model 49 "Body Guard". C'est un petit revolver chambré en .38 spécial qui a été fait pour être facile à dissimuler. Il a un chien "caché", permettant de limiter les risques d'accrochages lors du dégainage de l'arme. Comme d'hab avec Tanaka, cette version airsoft a une superbe finition mais des performances très médiocres, pour ne pas dire mauvaises. Aussi, le fonctionnement est curieux. Le gaz va directement dans le barillet et les billes (jusqu'à 10) sont stockées dans un magasin interne. Il a une faible puissance de 185 FPS (en utilisant du gaz 144A et de la 0.20 Tanio Koba) et une portée très limitée de 12-15 mètres maximum. Une pièce de collection plutôt qu'une réplique "jouable".
