Even though his team lost the match, John still gave his team enthusiasm, and was sure that next year he would win the game. It was informed that the factory in his city, where the majority of the workers were residents of the city, would be moved to another city. Several teachers and students, including the basketball team, left the school and moved to another city. John began to be confused, because many of his basketball teams were dwindling. John was asked by Olivia, the principal of the school where he teaches, to help train for a cross-country race, between state schools. When he was about to practice, John was surprised that only 1 person participated in the race, whose name was Hannah Scott and had asthma. Hannah lives with her grandmother Barbara Scott, who informs her that Hannah's parents have died. Hannah is financed by Olivia who is a friend of Hannah's mother. John with Pastor Mark, visited the hospital to pray for the patient. Accidentally, John entered the patient's room, known as Thomas Hill, whose eyes were blind due to diabetes. Thomas told John that he was a cross-country runner. John made several visits to see Thomas, to learn how to train cross-country, after learning that Hannah had potential. Thomas strengthened John, that placing God as the main identity changes a person's perspective in life. After several encounters with Thomas, John learns that Thomas is the father of Hannah who is said to have died. Thomas had his life slumped, after falling into drugs, and Hannah's mother died from drugs. But Thomas was grateful, because he was saved by God. John and his wife Amy take Hannah to see Thomas. Hannah was sad and not in the mood to train after meeting and talking to her father. Olivia strengthens Hannah, announces God as her savior, and invites them to pray together. Olivia tells Hannah, to read the book of Ephesians in the Bible. John and Amy, pleased to see Hannah's faith grow strong, are excited to return to practice. Hannah returned the things she had stolen, including John's watch, which was stolen during practice. Hannah goes to her father, and tells him that Hannah is willing to forgive her father. Barbara is angry with Hannah, who was caught secretly going to see her father. Barbara confronts John and Amy, venting her anger at having reunited Hannah with her father, without Barbara's permission. Barbara also meets Thomas at the hospital, and tells him to stay away from Hannah. John with Amy, Barbara, and Thomas, each of them prayed to God, asking for a way out so they could get back together. At the competition committee meeting, John initially refused to use earbuds on the contestants, which he considered strange. But suddenly, John actually asked to agree to the idea. John used the recording in the earbuds, with words of encouragement from Thomas, to give Hannah encouragement and direction in the race. When the race started, the participants ran with enthusiasm, including Hannah who was encouraged by her father through the recording. Slowly but surely, Hannah passed each participant well, even though she was considered not to be a competitor in the competition. Hannah managed to win the race, even though she had fallen across the finish line. Hannah's victory was greeted with joy by the supporters from her school, including Olivia and her grandmother who took the time to attend the competition. Hannah goes to her father, informs him that Hannah has won the race. Thomas eventually dies, Barbara attends the funeral. Hannah motivates her friends, telling her struggles with faith in God.
