A few months back I did an initial review of the 50 set of Prang Colored Pencils. At the time, the comparisons I made and the marbles I drew using the Prang pencils didn't give these pencils a full workout. I felt I needed to do something more. I decided to complete the portrait drawing of my eldest son using the pencils. The pencils proved to be quite good for budget colored pencils. I would say they rank up there in the top spots with Faber Castell Classic and Crayolas. These could be the best budget colored pencils for the money, depending on where you live and how much they cost. In the USA they typically sell for $5 to $8 for the set. Which makes them good value for beginning artists. In Canada they are usually twice the price, so you are still better off with Crayolas. Or if you want to spend $20, I would spend a few more dollars and pick up a 48 or 72 set of Prismacolor Premiers. If you keep an eye on Amazon, you can usually pick them up for $0.50 a pencil when on sale. Do keep in mind that they are budget colored pencils. So not as intense as artist grade, and by no means are they lightfast. But they impressed me enough that I am already planning to put them up against Crayolas and Faber Castell Classics to see if they take the top spot in budget colored pencils.
