March 15, 2001 - In his first year with the Pistons following a 2000 trade that sent him and Ben Wallace to Detroit in exchange for Grant Hill, Chucky Atkins was immediately installed as his new team's starting point guard. Atkins averaged 12 points and 4.1 assists in his new role, serving as a stopgap between the Joe Dumars/Lindsey Hunter years and the Chauncey Billups era. Atkins shot 41.1 percent from the arc in 2002, playing a key role for a Pistons team that earned their first division title in a decade. The end of Atkins' run in Detroit came two seasons later when he again found himself involved in a blockbuster deal, landing in Boston in a three-way trade that sent Rasheed Wallace to Detroit. The clip above comes from a matchup late in the 2000-01 season. Atkins finished with 20 points and 3 assists in a 125-119 overtime loss to the Los Angeles Lakers.
