(MIP) 2001 KONE MonoSpace MRL Traction Elevator - The Crossing Clarendon Garage • Arlington, VA

Very glad I was finally able to get out to this garage! These predate most KONEs I've been on by at least five years, and it's extremely uncommon to come across any as early as these. The true brand behind these can definitely be argued, but it's very late MK or very early KONE equipment installed by KONE. While I was here, only the right car was running, and it's a bit rough, but it runs very efficiently with the unique stopping behavior (the brake usually activates before the elevator finished S-curving). The brakes on these early machines sound different than the ones from later on. Unfortunately, the fixtures are not in good condition and several buttons just don't work. After 25 years, these elevators have lived out their useful lifespan and it seems their days are coming to an end. I believe this is why the left car was OOS; it was getting modernized. The shaft lights were on while I was here. There are permits filed for 3PHASE to modernize the two elevators here with new Hollister Whitney machines on Pixel controllers. The door equipment will be replaced (likely with GAL) and new fixtures/cabs too.
