On September 10, 2025 I set out to hike Andrews Tarn in RMNP. I have only hiked here once and that was three years ago. Our weather has been very cloudy over the last three weeks in the high alpine, so I took a chance and I was so fortunate that the clouds cleared by the time I arrived at Andrews Tarn. Almost immediately on the Glacier Gorge Trail, I encountered many Elk, lots of cows with their babies and one very large Bull Elk. Once I turned onto the Andrews Glacier Trail I only saw 4 other people hiking down. There is a long rocky and steep climb up to Andrews Tarn but RMNP has done a wonderful job creating a route, I still needed to use my GPS and look for cairns at times. It was extremely windy once I arrived above the last shelf. I had this beautiful tarn all to myself. Andrews Tarn has a milky aqua blueish green color, so pretty. When I hiked here three years ago the color was gray. I couldn't have asked for a more perfect day. 8.8 miles and 2200 feet of elevation gain.
