Another in my series of Forgotten Hymns and Hymn Tunes. I first play the tune through, soloed on a Trumpet stop. Then follow the four verses. Basil Harwood (1859-1949) , born in Gloucestershire, is well remembered for his Hymn Tunes Luckington (Let all the world in every corner sing) and Thornbury (Thy hand O God has guided) , Anthems such as O how glorious in the kingdom and and many substantial and technically demanding organ pieces, often staple diet of recitals but now quite rarely heard. Lower Marlwood is another fine Hymn Tune by him which now appears in only two Hymnals and is largely unknown. It appears in the BBC Hymn Book of 1950 set the splendid Advent Hymn 'Lift up your heads, you mighty gates, Alleluia' . Lower Marlwood is an area close to Thornbury, Bristol, and indeed , the heart of Basil Harwood. Played on Friesach , Austria, Hauptwerk sample set. The thumbnail is of the tune and text
