TIGERBAY - BLM/ NFJ I was inspired to write ‘Tigerbay’ seven years ago, when I was living in LA. My mother has been asking me to release this record ever since that day I picked up my guitar and sang to her down the telephone. My mother is white, born in South Wales and married my father, a second generation black Welshman with roots from Sierra Leone, West Africa. She told me my song had deeply moved her. Mum called me a few weeks ago after she witnessed the George Floyd murder and said that it had unearthed buried feelings of her personal struggle as a wife and mother to a black family. She literally pleaded with me to release this song now!!! Music lives in my soul, and this song came from my years of racist abuse. Enough pain gathered within a half black, half white child’s frustration, of why I experienced an ulcer knot in the pit of my belly, a tear swell of anger, frustration, and injustice. Now as a man I have processed those emotions and thanks to my music I have been able to vent. Being black and white I see myself as a bridge between colour cultures, witnessing the good and bad in them both. Through spirituality I know life is about the age old struggle between good and evil. I entitled this song ‘Tigerbay’, it’s dedicated to my brother Blue who passed away, and was buried the same month as George Floyd. It is dedicated to Tigerbay, Cardiff, South Wales, and all the black lives in the world who have felt deeply wronged by name calling and any kind of human injustice. I decided to release this song ‘Tigerbay’ on the 4th of July 2020. I want all my brothers and sisters to treat this song like one of your own. Get everyone you hold dear to post and share this song. It’s not just about George Floyd, it’s about every poor soul who has felt or died alone, scared in their shoes. A long time ago somewhere between slavery and George Floyds murder, their used to hang a sign; B.D.I. No blacks, No dogs, No Irish. Since then dogs have the RSPCA, Irish people have integrated seamlessly into normality, while black people are still trying to catch a breath. Listen to my song and if it calls to you, please share, share, share. NFJ
