TONGARIRO ALPINE CROSSING: TRAVEL VLOG & THINGS TO KNOW

Tongariro Alpine Crossing is one of the most popular day hikes in New Zealand. This track attracts lots of people from all around the world. Not only this is a very beautiful place with volcanoes, lakes, craters and valleys, but it's also a challenge to walk this 19.4-kilometre (12.1 mi) track. Located in Tongariro National Park which is a UNESCO World Heritage site, this is a very memorable experience. Tongariro Crossing passes over active volcanoes Mount Tongariro and Mount Ngauruhoe, amazing craters, beautiful lakes, valleys, hills and native bush. The track starts from Mangatepopo Carpark and concludes at Ketetahi Carpark, both of them have 4 hours parking limit. That's why most tourists take shuttles from the National Park village to Tongariro Alpine Crossing and back. There are many shuttle options and times which allow you to plan your visit as you wish. Shuttles can be pre-booked online or at your accommodation. The weather in Tongariro is a very important factor, so needs some preparation as well. The crossing track covers lots of different points, some of them are quite high like Red Crater (1,886 m) and there can be windy, some of them are quite low like last part with native forest where can be quite hot, and there can be snow at some points even in Summer. Raincoat and windbreaker are musts there, some warm clothes also. We were wearing several layers and also beanies and it was just right for the time - we were doing Tongariro Alpine Crossing at the very end of OCTOBER. Also, make sure to take water with you (not just water bottles) as there is nowhere to refill. Same with food or snacks. Tongariro Alpine Crossing is an amazing experience and one of the must-do things in New Zealand. Although it is challenging but how difficult really depends on your fitness level. We were walking with a regular pace and had one short lunch break, so it took us exactly 7 HOURS to complete. Unfortunately, the weather wasn't perfect, so we weren't able to enjoy the views this place is famous for.
