Yobikaeshi Shika no Tone means New Shika no Tone. The shakuhachi master Teruhisa Fukuda introduces in this piece new elements and techniques of this formidable shakuhachi piece. Shika no Tone means Distant Call of the Deer. Kurosawa Kinko is said to have collected this piece at Shojuken temple in Nagasaki from the monk Ikkeishi, and his arrangement was subsequently incorporated as one of the 36 honkyoku of the Kinko-ryu. It reflects the scenary of the forest in Autumn where a deer is calling or crying to the other deer and replies to his mate. This piece needs to be played in a sense of freedom and is one of the most artistically pieces of Kinko Ryu.
