I headed out to photograph shore birds with the brand new Sony A7V and the incredible Sony 300mm f/2.8 GM lens, paired with the 1.4x teleconverter but nature had other plans. What started as a promising wildlife photography session quickly turned into a battle against heavy rain and brutal weather conditions. In this video, I share my real-world field experience testing the Sony A7V for bird photography, including autofocus performance, image quality, and handling in extreme weather. The combination of the 300mm f/2.8 and 1.4x TC gave me extra reach for shorebird photography, but the intense rain forced me to pack up my lay-down hide and call it a day. If you're into: • Wildlife photography • Bird photography in the rain • Shore bird photography • Sony A7V review and field test • Sony 300mm f/2.8 GM lens performance • Teleconverter wildlife photography • Outdoor photography behind the scenes this one’s for you. Even though the weather cut the session short, I share insights about shooting in heavy rain, protecting your gear, and what worked (and didn’t) in real field conditions. Let me know in the comments if you’ve ever been rained out during a shoot!
