DEVIL'S ROCKS in Kamnica, Slovenia Kamnica is a village on the left bank of the Drava River northwest of Maribor in northeastern Slovenia. The Devil's Rocks are large conglomerate blocks. They are 15 million year old sedimentary rocks, consisting of rounded sedimentary clasts, gravel stones. They were deposited by the riverbed from the once higher elevated river Drava. After the deposit, they bound together with smaller gravel stones and formed into hard rock. Wind and water then hollowed, irrigated and washed away the material and shaped the modern appearance of the "Devil's" rocks. The rocks are a remarkable phenomenon in its natural state and protected natural sight. Legend has it that the people of Kamnica become very faithless. One night devil wanted to kill all villagers and take their souls, so he wore mighty rocks up the hill. But the moment he lifted the first stone to throw at the vilage the sun rose. The devil has lost power and had to flee. The rocks were left and so they bacame his name. #devilsrocks #conglomerateblocks #kamnica #maribor #slovenia #slovenija
