Transcript: you're learning english or another language but you don't have time here are two minute activities that you can use to boost your language learning first one shadowing shadowing is where you repeat what you hear ideally very soon after it so for instance if you're in a language learning class and your teacher is talking shadow them to yourself repeating everything that your teacher says or if you're watching a movie or if you're listening to a podcast an audiobook whatever you're listening to try to repeat what you're hearing copying that pronunciation intonation and stress we have a whole playlist of shadowing exercises so there's no excuse for finding material second step draw a picture if you are studying vocabulary but you find that you always forget the meaning or you always forget the word this is a sign that your mind does not have enough associations the more connections that your brain has with a word the harder it is to forget so you want to try to connect things like emotions remembering how a word makes you feel you want to try to think about how the word feels when you touch it what it smells like what it sounds like the pronunciation of it all of these things the more you have the harder it is to forget this includes doing things like drawing a picture when you draw a picture your mind has to work it has to think of a way to capture what the object looks like so this is a quick strategy that you can use it doesn't need to be pretty it doesn't need to be artistic it just needs to help you practice the work next suggestion every night put some flash cards and a pen on your keyboard or on your cell phone something that you touch every day this is a language hack because your mind is lazy your mind does not want to work so we need to make sure that if we're studying a language we're making it as easy as possible so that way the mind doesn't feel like it needs to work by putting these flashcards in a pen on top of your cell phone or on top of your computer that means the next time you use these things you have to physically remove them which takes work it's also a reminder that oh yeah i need to study let me just make a quick flash card you know it doesn't have to be a lot it just needs to be one or two something to just get a little bit of language learning going.... #learnenglish #fastandeffective #fluentamerican
