Andy competed in the HYROX challenge in Auckland last week along with 10,000 others. And is already talking about doing it all again next year. For those not familiar with HYROX, it consists of 8 x 1 km runs, each one followed by a different workout. The workouts are 1. 1000 metre Ski erg 2. 50 metre Sled Push (4 x 12.5 m legs) of 152 kg sled 3. 50 metre Sled Pull (4 x 12.5 m legs) of 103 kg sled 4. 80 metres Burpee Broad Jumps 5. 1000 metre Row 6. 200 metres Farmer Carry with a 24 kg kettle bell in each hand 7. 100 metres Sandbag Lunges with a 20 kg sandbag on your shoulders 8. 100 Wall Balls. Throwing a 6 kg ball to hit a small target 10 feet up on the wall, catching it and doing a full squat. If you miss the target or don’t squat fully it doesn’t count towards your 100 target. Andy completed the event in 1 hour 51 minutes. He powered through most of the exercises, and as he expected, it was the last two that really tested him. It was a very hot day and his hydration strategy was insufficient. As a result, he suffered some very painful calf cramps which made the final run and the wall balls excruciatingly painful. But he dug deep and conquered it. Well done, Andy. So proud of you.
