Hilton Head Island - R44 Rav II, too hot for doors ! This was fun…

One of my pleasures in life is to locate a local flying school or helicopter operator and arrange to go flying in the local area, seeing it from the air - but more interestingly, to get to meet local pilots and instructors and experience their approach to flying whever in the worldd that moght be. This time I’m back at Hilton Head in South Carolina… Hilton Head Helicopters have a Robinson R44 Raven II in a pretty fancy colour scheme and fly tours around the area for spotting dolphins, sharks, sea turtles, manta rays and more, so I booked a slot for a dual controls flight (as I only hold a UK licence which isnt valid for me to self fly hire alone in the US) and headed over to the airport for a morning flight with David. We took the doors off to keep cool - it was a first for us both as we climbed to 2300ft (with no doors) to cross north from Hilton Head to Pritchards Island for a descent and low level pass along the beach. Spotted a heavily smoking forest fire along the way.
