PAUL MCCARTNEY Tour: The Paul McCartney World Tour // Leg 1: Europe Venue: Live at the Ahoy Sportpaleis City: Rotterdam, The Netherlands Date: November 7th, 1989 To finish off Paul's first solo European tour, we're back in the Netherlands for four nights at The Ahoy in Rotterdam. Paul hadn't played here since Wings rocked the town in 1976, so there was a lot of enthusiasm about this comeback. We have quite a lot of information from these four nights, including TV reports, three of them having camcorder footage, as well as a press conference done on this date. The first show out of the four has two different audience sources, one of them is a pretty good audience recording, and the other one is an audience camcorder which is in pretty decent quality, recorded from a pretty great vantage point. The audience is absolutely amazing tonight and the atmosphere at the packed venue is amazing, with everyone singing along, (quite a lot of) chanting, and generally having a great time tonight. Paul goes through a slight recovery tonight, while he starts off pretty rough, the second half of the show has some pretty decent moments and he’s definitely better than in Madrid or Lyon. And he’s definitely on the gutsier side of things near the end. "Figure of Eight" has a couple of rough moments, but it's definitely better than the previous few performances. Paul has taken it down a notch as he doesn't attempt any of the "take good CARE" notes in the choruses, "Jet" isn't too hot, "Got To Get You Into My Life" is a mixed bag, with some terrible sustain attempts and some decent ones. "Band On The Run" has some solid high note attempts contrasting with some of the usual rougher ones, "We Got Married" contains great instrumentals, with a great solo by Wix, "Maybe I'm Amazed" contains some rough choruses, "Sgt. Pepper's Lonely Hearts Club Band" carries on the great musicianship, with a great guitar duel by Paul and Robbie, as well as Chris doing some fantastic drumming. "Things We Said Today" contains a great guitar ending, "I Saw Her Standing There" carries on the musicianship with some great guitars and drumming, "Twenty Flight Rock" has a pretty amazing solo by Robbie, and Wix also does some great stuff. "Coming Up" is full of energy, and the awesome atmosphere adds to the excitement, "Ain't That A Shame" gets a great reaction from the Dutch crowd, with lots of them singing along, the band also does some great stuff here, "Live and Let Die" contains yet another Bb4 attempt, and it's quite decent, "Hey Jude" closes out the main set with some great audience participation, "Get Back" has some more great energy, with the band doing some great stuff, "The End" finishes things off with some more amazing musicianship, with Paul, Robbie and Hamish doing some great guitar work.
