Over the past few months same sex marriage has been approved in England and Wales and in France, with a strong recommendation for a constitutional amendment for same sex marriage in Ireland (from the Constitutional Convention). On the 29th April 2013 a motion calling for legislation on same-sex marriage was rejected in the Northern Ireland Assembly in Stormont. The outcome was not unexpected: a similar motion had failed in October last year. However, with same-sex marriage about to become a reality in England and Wales, Sinn Féin, supported by the SDLP, the Greens and Alliance , tabled the motion to put political pressure on the Unionist parties, the DUP and UUP. (The biggest unionist party, the DUP, has a strongly socially conservative outlook and a religious voting base, so it was always unlikely to support the measure). Adam and Evan met through mutual friends They hit it off and agreed to see each other again Ten years down the line They're still in love and doing fine Two bright happy, two bright healthy men Now to some of us religion doesn't mean a lot but adam and evan were desperate to tie the knot They believe that god is great and whether you're gay or straight He loves everyone as equal but allegedly not The holy man said you cant come in You know it's illegal and you know it's a sin It's not up to me it's what the bible says You're going to have to change your evil ways Well Adam and Evan were devastated by this news So they called their local MLA to see what he could do But he just said the same shirking every ounce of blame You have to change for equality to work for you Up on the hill the hyenas sit Bullies and liars and hypocrites All good christians they'd have us believe That we're living in a new democracy Let's all stand up for Adam and Evan and for every other couple being victimised Tell those dinosaurs they better start opening doors Love is not immoral Love is a human right Welcome to Northern Ireland the land of fear Make sure to set your watch back fifty years Fundamentals rule and use a holy book as a tool To inflict their shallow views and further their careers These are the people who'd have us believe That Jesus died for rich mens greed Under the cover of darkness live a seedy life And some of them stay home and beat their wife
