Control thrips in leek with natural enemies Over the recent years, we have seen an increase in the thrips pressure as we have had increasingly warmer and drier summers. Combined with the bans of chemicals, it is getting harder to control thrips in for example leek. At Koppert, we are running tests to control thrips in leek with natural enemies, such as banker plants and Orius predatory bugs. How do we do use natural enemies to control thrips? We plant Lobularia, little flowers, in between the spray trackers. We apply Orius to these plants. Over the last two years, we have reduced the chemical sprayings a lot while controlling the thrips properly.
