Are Emergency Departments & Doctor’s Offices Safe? Our physicians on the front lines lend their expertise on this. Can patients afford to put off seeing their doctor? – Our physicians say, “No” and will explain why. UNC Health physicians from the UNC Medical Center in Chapel Hill and UNC REX in Raleigh address the safety of going to the Emergency Department (ED) and the “importance of seeing medical professionals to maintain health. Patients shouldn’t avoid hospitals / physicians’ offices out of COVID-19 fears. Especially if they have chest pains or other heart issue symptoms, it is critical to get to an Emergency Department quickly. The same holds true for stroke symptoms where it is critical to begin treatment as quickly as possible such as strokes and other emergency situations. For non-emergent conditions, chronic health issues, it is equally important that follow-up and check-up appointments be kept, especially for patients who require regular blood screenings and other diagnostics.
