See How I Created this Colorful Country Road Fall Painting, Start to Finish!

Watch to see how to paint step by step this vibrant landscape acrylic painting process. Watch this fall road, country fields, scenic view from start to finish! This video shows the process of adding details and rich hues to depict this charming countryside rural scene with houses, hay rolls, and bright, colorful autumn trees. This painting actually took many days to complete, but I sped it up in this time-lapse video. This piece has a cheerful folk art style! The imagery in this painting is from my imagination, based on years of observation. This is a large painting that I created for a collector here in Canada. My intention isn't to show you how to copy it, but to show how a painting comes to life from start to finish. Folks who collect art rarely get to see the process behind the art that hangs on their wall, so this is a sneak peek into my studio. This painting was created using acrylic paint on stretched canvas. I start with an orange base as it makes the colors I put on top brighter, plus any gaps between strokes will show orange instead of white. This is how I usually start all my acrylic paintings. For a large painting of this size, I plan it out in a drawing first, and then draw it on the canvas. I outline over the pencil in black paint, and then I roughly block in the colors to see how they work together. Once I feel like I have a handle on the colours, I begin to add shading and highlights to bring the elements of the painting to life. I work the whole canvas at the same time since changes I make in one part will affect other parts. Even though I have a good idea of where the painting is headed as I create it you'll notice some changes do happen through the process as I add or subtract elements of change colors.
