(22 Jan 2014) VALENTINO PRESENTS WOMENSWEAR COLLECTION IN PARIS Valentino invited the wild kingdom into its spring/summer haute couture collection, presented at the Hotel Salomon de Rothschild in Paris Wednesday evening (22 JAN. 2014). Long gowns were embroidered with intarsia of stylized roaring lions, elephants, gorillas, Adam and Eve in the Garden of Eden, a snake with an apple. A swarm of delicate butterflies appeared to have alighted on one cape. Other dresses had unfinished tutus. One featured an embroidered monkey clinging to the model's waist. Colors were earthy, like the African plains: grey, beige, brown, rust. The setting itself reflected this theme, and was created in partnership with the Rome Opera House. Valentino's designers, Maria Grazia Chiuri and Pierpaolo Piccioli, envisioned this collection as a fantastic voyage to a paradise of opulence and imagination.
