This Cambridge Dialogues webinar to launch a pioneering new toolkit for Islamic schools took place on 21 May 2025. About the Webinar: Are Islamic schools truly reflecting the ethos and worldview of Islam—or simply adapting dominant models of education? Join us for the launch of the How Islamic is My School? Evaluation and Development Toolkit, a practical, research-informed resource designed to help Islamic school leaders and educators critically reflect on and improve their school environments. This unique toolkit helps schools ask deeper questions—beyond exam results or Islamic dress codes—to explore whether their ethos, pedagogy, curriculum, and school culture are grounded in Islamic educational philosophies and principles. Rooted in classical and contemporary Islamic scholarship, as well as global research into Islamic schooling, the toolkit supports schools in rethinking education through the lens of tauhīd (oneness and holism), tarbiyah, taʿlīm, and tajdīd (renewal). How the toolkit can be used to: ✅ Evaluate your school’s alignment with an Islamic worldview ✅ Support professional learning and school development ✅ Implement spiritually-rooted, learner-centered teaching practices ✅ Move beyond tokenistic approaches to holistic Islamic education 🌟 Speakers Dr Farah Ahmed – Senior Research Associate, Faculty of Education, University of Cambridge Dr Amaarah DeCuir – Senior Prof Lecturer, School of Education, American University Dr Nadeem Memon – Associate Professor, Centre for Islamic Thought and Education, University of South Australia
