This is a cab view of the section near Choshi Station, the terminus of the Sobu Line, which runs along the eastern edge of Chiba Prefecture, close to the Pacific Ocean, east of Tokyo. The JR tracks leading to Choshi Station are the Sobu Line and the Narita Line, which extend from the west side. The two lines converge at Matsugishi Station, one stop after Choshi Station. This video captures the cab view from Saruda Station on the Sobu Line, via Matsugishi Station, to Choshi Station. I recently uploaded a cab view of the Narita Line. This time, the location continues from that. If you're heading west on the Narita Line toward Choshi Station, this will be the last section of this journey. Choshi has been a prosperous town since ancient times. Thanks to its proximity to the Pacific Ocean, the town enjoys a warm climate and prospered as a fishing base and for the production of soy sauce. Products gathered in Choshi were transported by boat up the Tone River, which begins here at its mouth, and then moved upstream to the Sumida River, from where they were transported by boat down the river to Edo (present-day Tokyo). Until the Edo period, boats were the only way for Japanese people to transport large amounts of cargo. Fearing a military coup, the Edo Shogunate severely restricted the development of land transportation. From the Meiji period onwards, with the construction of railways, boats fell into disuse as a slow means of transportation, but the Tone River, which begins here at its mouth, remains a beloved symbol of Choshi and the region. Filmed in August 2025 The station building and the view of the Tone River, with its mouth at Choshi, in the video are from Google Earth.
