While most breast cancers are not related to family history or genetics, this video is all about how your genes affect your risk of breast cancer. And this goes far beyond BRCA1 and 2! We talk about BRCA, as well as other genetic mutations such as PALB2, p53, ATM, CHEK2, CDH1, STK11, and PTEN, and the syndromes they cause like Li Fraumeni, Cowden's and Peutz-Jeghers. So many of these increase your risk of other cancers as well -- from ovarian, pancreatic, prostate to others. We talk about the fact that both sides of your family count when it comes to your genes, and we talk about the most recent guidelines from the American Society of Breast Surgeons regarding genetic testing -- who should get tested and why? We talk about panel testing, and what test results mean -- what if you test positive, negative, and what is a VUS?
