🎹 𝐒𝐢𝐦𝐩𝐥𝐞 𝐍𝐨𝐭𝐞𝐬, 𝐂𝐨𝐦𝐩𝐥𝐞𝐱 𝐄𝐦𝐨𝐭𝐢𝐨𝐧𝐬: 𝐖𝐡𝐚𝐭 𝐚 𝟐-𝐦𝐢𝐧𝐮𝐭𝐞 𝐩𝐢𝐚𝐧𝐨 𝐩𝐢𝐞𝐜𝐞 𝐭𝐞𝐚𝐜𝐡𝐞𝐬 𝐮𝐬 𝐚𝐛𝐨𝐮𝐭 𝐧𝐮𝐚𝐧𝐜𝐞𝐬 (𝐚𝐧𝐝 𝐀𝐈). We often mistake "simple" for "easy." In business, in AI prompting, and definitely in music. This week, I invite you to take a 2-minute break with 𝐑𝐨𝐛𝐞𝐫𝐭 𝐒𝐜𝐡𝐮𝐦𝐚𝐧𝐧’𝐬 "𝐎𝐟 𝐅𝐨𝐫𝐞𝐢𝐠𝐧 𝐋𝐚𝐧𝐝𝐬 𝐚𝐧𝐝 𝐏𝐞𝐨𝐩𝐥𝐞" (𝐊𝐢𝐧𝐝𝐞𝐫𝐬𝐳𝐞𝐧𝐞𝐧, 𝐎𝐩. 𝟏𝟓 𝐍𝐨. 𝟏), played by myself. It sounds like a gentle fairytale. But underneath the surface, there is a strict rhythmic architecture that is incredibly hard to master. 👂 𝐌𝐲 𝐥𝐢𝐬𝐭𝐞𝐧𝐢𝐧𝐠 𝐜𝐡𝐚𝐥𝐥𝐞𝐧𝐠𝐞 𝐟𝐨𝐫 𝐲𝐨𝐮: Pay attention to the melody in the right hand. You will hear a dotted rhythm (a long note followed by a very short one). Technically, this short note fights against the flowing accompaniment in the background (a "2 against 3" conflict). • If played too late, the melody sounds sharp and aggressive. • If played too early, it sounds lazy and waltz-like. • It has to land in a millisecond "sweet spot" to create that feeling of longing and curiosity. 𝐖𝐡𝐲 𝐝𝐨𝐞𝐬 𝐭𝐡𝐢𝐬 𝐦𝐚𝐭𝐭𝐞𝐫 𝐟𝐨𝐫 𝐮𝐬? Schumann captures the "𝐁𝐞𝐠𝐢𝐧𝐧𝐞𝐫’𝐬 𝐌𝐢𝐧𝐝" (Shoshin). The title suggests looking at "foreign lands" not with fear, but with the wide-eyed wonder of a child. In our current age of AI transformation, this is the mindset we need. Not the "expert mind" that judges everything immediately, but the open mind that explores new territories (like GenAI) with curiosity and accurate nuance. Take a deep breath. Close your eyes. And let the music take you to a foreign land. Happy Listening & a great start to your week! 👉 You can listen to this recording and the whole Kinderszenen-Album, op. 15, in my Hashtag#SoundCloud-playlist in higher audio resolution here: https://lnkd.in/djNmMAqb #Piano #Schumann #Mindfulness #Leadership #Creativity #Focus #ClassicalMusic
