One dead in fire at North Portland city-owned Safe Rest Village

One person died in a tiny home fire at a city-operated shelter on North Portland Road on Monday night, according to Portland Fire & Rescue. Firefighters were called at about 5:50 p.m. to the North Portland Road Safe Rest Village at 10505 N. Portland Road. Staff members at the Safe Rest Village used fire extinguishers to try to put out the fire that was burning the tiny home, but because the fire was too large and hot, they were unsuccessful.
