Parkinson’s & PBM: Five-Year Follow-Up Shows Improvements in Clinical Signs and Symptoms Using PBM

Dr. Ann Liebert and Dr. Brian Bicknell, from the University of Sydney, presented their work at the MGH Brain PBM Clinic Rounds (02/07/25). They talked about their five-year follow-up study exploring photobiomodulation (PBM) therapy in individuals with Parkinson’s disease. They noted that participants who continued home-based PBM three times per week demonstrated sustained improvements in walking speed, stride length, dynamic balance, cognition, and functional mobility. These findings suggest that long-term PBM therapy may safely support motor and non-motor function, complement standard treatments, and potentially help delay symptom progression in Parkinson’s disease.
