NOT SPONSORED – This video was shot at 4k/30 fps front and 1080p rear in mixed conditions, including lit and unlit roads at night. A few frames have been frozen and zoomed to illustrate the quality of number plate capture. Bundle details at foot of this description. THIS VERSION HAS BEEN DOWNSAMPLED TO 1080p. IF YOUR DISPLAY SUPPORTS IT YOU VIEW THE ORIGINAL 4k VERSION HERE: • Nextbase 622GW samples – front and rear – ... Please make sure you're viewing at your highest possible YouTube resolution. SETTINGS The front camera is running at 4k 30 fps, with the fitted polarising filter adjusted appropriately and exposure set to plus 1. As the rear camera is recording to the same card I cannot record in 4k at 60fps; I tried a lower resolution at 60fps but preferred the 4k footage. Rear camera is 1080p. Similarly I tried a lower resolution with stabilisation on and didn’t like the result for normal driving. I have set the system to record in three-minute segments, using high resolution only rather than dual mode (see SOFTWARE). FITTING The bundle was hardwired by me, connected to the OBD port using the Nextbase OBD kit. The power cable has been run up the offside A pillar of my 2019 VW Tiguan (no airbag in there), across the front headlining, and under the trim behind the rear view mirror. Rear camera cable runs above the door weatherstrips (below the curtain airbags) and hard trim, and through the rubber boot into the tailgate; it is not visible. Rear camera is mounted on rear window so as not to obstruct loading. Parking mode is enabled and has not caused any battery issues. I have tried pushing hard at one corner of the car and it wakes as it should. I am using the supplied Nextbase 256GB card without any issues so far. I reformat it whenever I remember. I keep a spare (tested, works fine) SanDisk 256GB MAX ENDURANCE (https://www.amazon.co.uk/dp/B084CJJRBW) card in the car in case I want to keep footage untouched until it can be retrieved. SOFTWARE I do not have What3Words turned on, as that information is on my phone anyway and I the car already has emergency response equipment. I tried the camera’s built-in Alexa but found it unreliable for controlling the camera and otherwise it doubled-up on my Android Auto functionality, so that is switched off too. I installed MyNextbase Connect on my phone and, like many other users, found it problematic. You can only view low resolution files (if you have them enabled in dual mode), and connecting to the camera involves disabling my car’s default Bluetooth and WiFi settings (used for my phone) temporarily. I found it to be more trouble than it’s worth and uninstalled it. Instead, I bought a cheap microSD card reader (https://www.amazon.co.uk/dp/B07D1J88CF) which plugs into my phone’s USB-C socket. This allows me to view and copy files in an emergency using my phone’s software. I keep this reader in my car in case I need to access footage urgently when out and about. I installed MyNextbase Player on my PC and it works well enough (although maps do not display). The handiest thing about it, compared with my default media players, is the ability to zoom the picture. This matters as my PC screen is 1440p, so doesn’t display 4k as such. Although I can use a card reader, I prefer to connect the camera to the PC using the supplied USB cable. NOTES ON VIDEO EDIT I run Adobe Premiere Pro, so was able to edit and output footage using native 4k. However, as I mentioned, my PC does not use such a high resolution, so I also downsampled the front camera to another file set at a standard 1080p (the rear camera footage fills the screen on that one, whereas at 4k output it naturally appears zoomed out. Which looks preferable to you will depend on your display! BUNDLE DETAILS 622GW Elite Package https://nextbase.co.uk/exclusive-offe... (£299.00 at time of purchase plus 10% further discount for signing up to their emails – which I’ve now unsubscribed from!) Bundle included 622GW Dash Cam 4k, Rear Window Cam 1080p, 256GB U3 Industrial Grade microSD Card, Series 2 Carry Case. Also purchased Series 2 OBD Hardwire Kit https://nextbase.co.uk/series-2-obd-h... (£19.99 at time of purchase). Purchase date was February 2026 direct from Nextbase. I thought it seemed better value than buying a 522GW plus the additional bits and pieces separately. COMMENTS? Sorry, this is for information only, so comments are disabled. Sorry.
