#4k #rhodes #greece We begin our walk in the heart of modern Rhodes, on 28is Oktovriou Street, a central and vibrant avenue named after a key date in Greek history—October 28th, 1940—when Greece bravely said "No" to fascist demands. Today, the street is full of life, lined with boutiques, cafés, hotels, and elegant buildings that reflect the Italian architectural influence from the early 20th century. As we walk toward the sea, the salty breeze of the Aegean becomes more noticeable. Palm trees line the streets, and the atmosphere shifts from urban energy to a more relaxed, coastal charm. Along the way, you'll find everything from designer shops to cozy tavernas, where locals enjoy traditional Greek coffee or a glass of ouzo under the shade. Soon, we reach the coastal area, home to the iconic Casino Rodos—a striking neoclassical building originally constructed during the Italian occupation. Once the luxurious Grand Hotel des Roses, the casino now serves not only as a gaming destination but also as a historic and architectural landmark. Its seaside terrace offers stunning views of the blue waters and is a favorite spot for both tourists and locals. Right next to the casino, we find Ronda Beach Bar, a modern and stylish hangout right by the water. It's the perfect place to pause and soak in the atmosphere—whether you’re enjoying a cocktail, a Mediterranean snack, or simply watching the waves roll in. With chill-out music during the day and live DJs or performances in the evening, Ronda captures the vibrant energy of Rhodes by the sea. This short walk—just a few hundred meters—gives you a perfect taste of Rhodes’ unique blend of history, elegance, and relaxed coastal life. From the lively bustle of 28is Oktovriou to the grandeur of Casino Rodos and the fresh, youthful vibe of Ronda, this route is a little journey through the best of what Rhodes has to offer. After enjoying the seaside views and vibrant atmosphere at Ronda, we begin our walk back, this time heading toward one of the city’s symbolic monuments—the Statue of Diagoras. We stroll along the coast, following the gentle curve of the promenade. The Aegean Sea sparkles beside us, and if you look closely, you can often see sailboats and ferries in the distance, heading to nearby islands or returning to Mandraki Harbor. Soon, the silhouette of the statue comes into view. Standing proudly near the entrance of the harbor, the Statue of Diagoras depicts the ancient Olympic champion being carried on the shoulders of his sons—also Olympic victors themselves. It’s a powerful image that celebrates not only athletic achievement but also heritage, family, and the deep roots of Rhodes in ancient Greek history. Diagoras was a real figure from the 5th century BC, a boxer renowned across Greece. His legacy is a source of pride for the island, and this statue reminds visitors of Rhodes' contribution to the glory of the ancient world. The area around the statue is open and breezy, with benches facing the sea, making it a perfect spot to reflect on the walk, enjoy the scenery, or capture a few memorable photos. From here, whether you choose to continue exploring the harbor, visit the nearby medieval walls of the Old Town, or simply watch the sun dip below the horizon, you're surrounded by the timeless charm of Rhodes.
