Alongside the GT1-98 championship, a second AMS2 single-player “career” kicks off, built around a two-part 2005 multiclass concept. The structure is simple: four one-hour endurance races featuring a full mix of 2005 LMP1, LMP2, GT1 and GT2 machinery on track, and sixteen 30-minute sprints focusing on 2005 GT1 and GT2. The first stop for the endurance side of the calendar is Daytona Road, the 3.56-mile sports car course that combines Daytona’s NASCAR banking with a technical infield that rewards patience as much as bravery. For this opener, the car of choice is the 2005 LMP2 Lola V8, a lightweight prototype with serious aero and plenty of power that still sits a rung below the full-fat LMP1s on the grid. Qualifying goes well, netting P1 in class and P7 overall, which drops the car right into the middle of the prototype pack and ahead of the GT fields. That middle-of-the-grid position guarantees traffic management will be part of the story from Lap 1, both looking forward at faster-class fights and glancing back at GT leaders trying to make their own race. The Lola itself is a handful. On full fuel it is heavier and more reluctant to rotate, and the combination of high-speed banking, heavy braking zones into the infield, and long stints means the margin for error is thin. A full tank will not carry the car to the flag, so strategy and pit work are non-negotiable: managing fuel, watching tire wear, and deciding how hard to push in traffic when there is still an hour to go. One big lockup into Turn 1, a misjudged move into the bus stop, or getting tangled while lapping GT traffic could undo the entire plan in a heartbeat. That is where the tension lives in this race. With a one-hour timer, a fast but edgy LMP2, and a starting spot that invites both opportunity and risk, there is a lot of time to make mistakes and just enough time to recover from some of them. The question hanging over the start is simple and a little ominous: from P1 in class and P7 overall in a car that is anything but calm, with fuel stops to juggle and traffic everywhere, what could possibly go wrong?
