In her closing remarks at the Tertiary Education Sector Strategic Engagement in Windhoek (July 26–28, 2023), Dr Itah Kandjii-Murangi emphasised the following key points: • Sustained Collaboration: She urged participants to commit to regular engagement and a constructive exchange of views among stakeholders, including universities, TVET institutions, government ministries, and international partners. • Sector Transformation: The Minister highlighted that a united front is essential to improving the tertiary sector's relevance and impact, ensuring it meets Namibia’s current and future needs for human capital. • Education Universality: She stated that the universality of education and training should underlie the sector's expansion, calling for proactive strategies to address reforms and implementation challenges. • Alignment with National Goals: Dr Kandjii-Murangi stressed that a robust education system is crucial for achieving Namibia's national development aspirations and providing solutions to the country's challenges. • Skill Development: She noted that institutions must equip students with the right skills to adapt to a dynamic global economy, focusing on science, technology, and innovation. As of 2026, these efforts have transitioned into a major policy shift, with the Namibian government implementing 100% subsidized (free) tertiary education at all public universities and TVET institutions starting this academic year.
