The Tonkean macaque (Macaca tonkeana), also known as yaki, is an endemic primate to the central part of Sulawesi. In the Togean Archipelago, this protected primate is only present in Malenge Island. It is believed that the population in Malenge was introduced. However, no one knows for sure how they got there. Some people said they were deliberately released. Other said it was by accident. According to the local folklore, they were once human. It seems their origin will remain a mystery for another year. This troop was recorded by one of our camera traps set in Malenge Island.
