Nestling in the lap of the dazzling, snow-capped Himalayas, this stretch of Kashmir is an inspiration for art, music, poetry and Travelers; this is a paradise, a nature lover’s wonderland. "Agar firdous baroye zameen ast, hami asto, hami asto hami ast” – Amir-e-Khusru Dehluvi (If there is paradise anywhere on Earth, it is here, it is here, it is here) It is NH 1 which connects Ladakh to Srinagar, distance between is 202 km which moves through never ending straight, wide and long roads, is a dream motivation for Travelers, especially for those who wishes to take Traveling to next Level of Xtremes. There are three very important places one has to pass through, Sonmarg also known as meadow of Gold is a great break point, it is from here Zoji La pass, the dreadest and the most difficult motorable road begins. Zoji La is 9 km (5.6 mi) from Sonamarg and provides a vital link between Ladakh and Kashmir Valley at the height of 3,528 metres (11,575 ft) is also a second highest pass on NH 1 between Srinagar – Leh. The Dras valley starts from the base of the Zojila pass, which is also said to be the Himalayan gateway to Ladakh, is the coldest place in India, just 56 km from Kargil is must visit place. Dras shot into prominence during the Kargil War when the town is being shelled by the Pakistani army and the war ended with the Indian Army recapturing the areas surrounding the town and the Kargil district. Must visit to "Kagil War Memorial" at Dras to see the famous Tiger Hill, even chatting with Army Officials is always been inspiring experience. In this video i have created special place for our martyr who lost their lives in saving our country's pride. Any traveler with any budget can have a great stay in any of these areas, prices are reasonable and food is good, also not to forget pre-paid network doesn’t work as mentioned in our Previous episodes of Xtreme Ladakh series, BSNL post paid connection is a must to carry along with, Internet connectivity comes to zero when traveling through meandering roads of Valleys but at these 3 places there are shops which has ‘WiFi’ and they love to let you use at free of cost ! People in this region of the valley are very warm, gentle and friendly though it is loaded with Indian army but you don’t feel as if you are in sensitive zone. A very important note to all, every bit and inch of this track is amazingly picturesque, it’s a fulfilling zone for photographers, painters and creative people’s wildest imaginations, but it can eat up your time, so kind advice is if you want the best, start early !
