Ilha Grande | Brazil’s answer to a Thailand island

Ilha Grande – which literally translates to Big Island – is a tropical island just off the coast of Rio de Janeiro state and is about 160 kilometres from Copacabana. We took a van from Rio to Angra dos Reis to get a ferry over to Ilha Grande. It’s our favourite island we’ve ever visited, watch until the end to find out why! Beaches, an abandoned prison, no cars, hiking, wildlife, and close encounters with the islands dangerous plants. It really does have it all.
