In the past 7 years, World Bank task teams have requested Global Rapid post-disaster Damage Estimation (GRADE) assessments for over 25 disasters spanning all of our working regions. GRADE assessments support the World Bank and partners in determining the appropriate levels of financial and technical support needed (e.g. activation of Crisis Response Window), enable leverage with World Bank clients and provide decision-makers with a first order of the disaster’s impact. Assessments can also contribute to baseline information needed for the design of rehabilitation and recovery plans. As part of GFDRR’s Global Program on Disaster Risk Analytics, the GRADE approach is now being scaled up to meet TTL demands. This session will provide an overview of different GRADE products, along with answers to FAQs of TTLs on GRADE, lessons learnt, vision going forward, advice in helping task teams understand what GRADE is, the types of results the assessment can deliver, and when it is most useful to conduct GRADE assessments.
