Delta is a word that means many things: In math, it represents a change or a difference between two numbers and in astronomy, it's used to refer to the 4th brightest star in a constellation, such as Delta Cephei. It's the 4th letter of the Greek alphabet, represented by a triangle… which also happens to be the shape of a river delta. And this is where the term Delta blues music comes from – a reference to the Mississippi delta region from which it originated. Delta also refers to a certain brainwave frequencies…. Specifically, the 1-4 kHz range associated with deep sleep. In this video, I'll try my hand at Delta blues, and specifically the use of a very cool instrument that is associated with it: resonator guitars (sometimes referred to as Dobro), which include metal cones that impart built-in amplification and reverb effects. Finally, we'll use these resonators and slide guitars to create a rendition of Fade Into You by Mazzy Star, including binaural beats to induce Delta brainwaves, and rooted in the 396 Solfeggio frequency (purportedly related to the Root Chakra.)
