Important Acts of British Rule: From Regulating Act 1773 to Government of India Act 1935 | India Modern History | NCERT History Hi aspirants, in this video we will study all the imp acts under British rule. We will start from the Regulating Act of 1773 which marked the beginning of British control over India, establishing a Governor-General in Bengal and the Supreme Court in Calcutta to curb corruption in the East India Company. The Pitts India Act of 1784 introduced dual control, dividing authority between the Company and the British Crown. The Charter Acts, from 1813 to 1853, progressively diminished the Company's monopoly and allowed Indian participation in administration. The 1813 Act ended the trade monopoly, while the 1833 Act centralized legislative powers under the Governor-General and sought to introduce equality. The Government of India Act of 1858 ended Company rule, transferring power to the British Crown after the 1857 revolt. The Indian Councils Acts of 1861, 1892, and 1909 expanded legislative councils and allowed limited Indian representation. The Morley-Minto Reforms (1909) introduced separate electorates for Muslims. The Government of India Act of 1919 brought the system of dyarchy, separating provincial subjects between elected and appointed officials. Finally, the Government of India Act of 1935 created a federal structure, introduced provincial autonomy, and expanded the electorate.
