Interesting Things - An art installation by Salome Erni
A journey through 1920s Palestine, documented with a mobile camera. That is what Frank Scholten left the world. A century later, an envelope of his photographs titled “Interesting Things” piqued artist Salome Erni's interest. She transformed them into an art installation, a video essay, and a photobook. Through this work, Erni reflects on her personal connection to these historical documents amid the horrific events in Gaza, while also capturing viewers’ reactions and feelings to Scholten’s images over the past year. Her video essay received the 2nd Jury Prize at the Upcoming Filmmakers Festival in Switzerland. Her installation will be exhibited this December at Photoforum Pasquart as part of the Prix Photoforum 2025, and her photobook “Interesting Things” has been nominated for the Paris Photo–Aperture PhotoBook Awards.
