The American Flagfish, also sometimes known as the Florida Flagfish, is in my opinion one of the most underrated fish in the hobby. Other than just looking really nice, they will eat many types of algae, including the dreaded BBA (Black Brush Algae/Black Beard Algae). Some say that no algae eaters other than Siamese Algae Eaters will eat BBA. You can see here that isn't true. While these guys aren't commonly available, they aren't exactly rare either. The males are a bit aggressive but don't do any real damage, however, females should still ideally outnumber males. Females seem be schooling fish almost, and the more solitary males are slightly better at beating back BBA. In my experience, Flagfish are plant safe. These are aufwuchs grazers. They will eat algae, but should still be given actual food, whether it's pellet, frozen, freeze dried, or live.
