While it's a bit out of date since its publication, I still really dig this book. I've had a soft spot for monsters going back as far as I can remember. My family (especially my Grandmother) actively encouraged me searching up books on the subject. Summer vacations were often spent making multiple trips to a variety of local libraries with both her and my dad, a treasure trove of monster knowledge cradled in my arms. Do you guys remember the Usborne World of the Unknown books? Or those orange bound movie monsters books? Man those were my jam... Thanks to the internet I don't need to lug those books around, but there's a definite fondness for big books full of my favorite subject matter. Dragon Quest's monsters were always cooler than Final Fantasy's. I knew this even back in the early 90s when I used to ogle the old Nintendo Power guides with all their art. Prior to the web my only Dragon Quest source of knowledge was a Toriyama Akira art book I got in high school circa 94 or so, before DBZ invaded all the silk shirts of Hot Topic. At the time this was printed, it has literally every monster in the franchise. It might be missing some of the exclusive bosses from the game center card systems, but even then I think they're in here somewhere.. It's just a huge treasure trove of hundreds of Toriyama monsters. The only thing better than Toriyama monsters would be Nirasawa monsters, but we'll save that for another day...
