Here's how to teach going from the active voice to PASSIVE VOICE in 4 easy steps. How to Teach Passive Voice: First, we look at why the Passive Structure is used, which is WHEN AN ACTION OR ITS RESULT IS MORE IMPORTANT THAN ITS CAUSE. We also see ways in which people have already been using passive from very early on. Next, we go over the four steps to transform an active sentence into a passive one. 1. put the passive noun (object) before the verb 2.a. put the active noun (subject) after the verb and place "by" in between 2.b. throw the active noun away 3. add [to be] before the verb (in the same tense as the original verb] 4. change the main verb to the past participle form. Finally, we see some common situations that the Passive Voice is used.
