We chose this final song in our show tonight because the barbershop community was, and is, experiencing a change. We chose it because we, as a chapter, all feel the same – we see inclusion on every level as the highest priority in our singing organization. To us, a community of singers without boundaries against race or gender or orientation or location seems like the ultimate evolution. We are ready to say openly and proudly that we stand by inclusion, that we look forward to a community that is different than it used to be. One that brings together everyone at every level. Westminster’s taking the first step. This is what we want our international community of singers to look like as we move into a future where we can be together again. Not one segregated by age or gender or culture or ideology. Rather, a community of inclusion, of justice, of unity. Change is difficult. Challenging. But together, we can do anything. We decide how we grow. We decide how we flourish. This is what we think barbershop should look like forever. We can build it.
