I left Strahan on a beautiful sunny day with no wind. The trip down Macquarie Harbour was spectacular with glassy conditions on the water, so I had some fun capturing some different angles of Bellamy. I passed the infamous Sarah Island and had a close look at Grummet Island. At that part of Macquarie Harbour, Frenchman's Cap comes into view, so I paid a small homage to my walk there and some of the wonderful people I met on the walk. At the very southern end of Macquarie Harbour lies the entrance to the Gordon River. Twenty years ago, I had camped up the river for a week, and I was really looking forward to taking Bellamy up the river, as far as Sir John Falls to re-visit a place I had very fond memories of. After meandering along the Gordon River for a few miles, I stopped at 'Yurata', a fishermen's hut that is never locked and available for anyone to use. They have a peak period that they ask people to avoid, but other than that, you can stay and use the facility any other time. A little further along is Heritage Landing, used by the commercial cruise boats to drop people off to do a short walk and see the lush forest, including Huon Pines. I finally made it to Sir John Falls and tied up at the commercial jetty used to pick up Franklin River rafters. Once the boat was secure and shut down, I stopped for a moment and took a deep breath. I was a long way from anywhere, and it felt awesome!
